My personal mission:

Using the Internet to be on Mission, Disciple and Create Community

We have all heard about the importance of a church website, the craze of social networking and the need for pastors to blog. But how effective are these really in gathering people, creating community and fostering discipleship? How effective is our church website? Are regulars coming back frequently? Are we gathering new people? If not, who is visiting our website? Why are they visiting? Where are these visitors coming from? Church website designs have improved greatly over the last few years but are the designs created for the right online visitors?

Search Engines | Are we Visible?

It may come as a surprise to you that some of the most engaging websites are completely invisible to search engines. If you've Googled our site lately and aren't happy with the results, there are some things you can do to help our site's performance and make your church easier to find by those who are looking.

Churches Resisting Change

Many churches (particularly smaller churches - and especially those in rural environments) are either ignorant of or hostile to the changes in how people live and communicate. The consequences of this stubbornness is that many churches are being left behind.

A recent Barna report describes the use of technology in church. The report explains that most churches in North America are embracing at least some levels of multimedia technology, but that many remain resistant to doing so. According to George Barna, this is unwise.

Says Barna: "The Internet has become one of the pivotal communications and community-building tools of our lifetime. Churches are well-advised to have an intelligent and foresighted Internet strategy in order to facilitate meaningful ministry."

Kevin Hendricks, writing for ChurchMarketingSucks.com, says "every church needs to connect their members and keep everyone in touch, and cheap to free technologies like e-mail newsletters, web sites, blogs and social networking sites can do just that."

Sadly, many small and rural churches are either unaware, unimpressed, or uncomfortable with these technologies. And they are receding into insignificance or fading into oblivion. Whether ignorance or hostility is the culprit, the result is the same. Those churches who refuse to change will not survive the 21st century.
